Do you find yourself carrying something heavy — a persistent sadness, a nagging anxiety, a pattern you keep repeating, a wound that never quite healed? Have you been telling yourself you will deal with it later, pushing through, keeping busy — and finding that it keeps showing up anyway?
Or perhaps there is no single crisis driving you to therapy. Maybe you simply sense that there is more available to you — more clarity, more peace, more genuine connection with yourself and others — and you want support in getting there.
Individual therapy is one of the most powerful investments a person can make in their own wellbeing, growth, and quality of life. It provides something that is genuinely rare in most people’s lives — a consistent, confidential, and completely dedicated space to explore what is going on inside you, with the guidance of a skilled professional whose only agenda is your healing and growth.
At Whole Health Psychological Center, our team of licensed therapists provides individual therapy for adults, teenagers, and children in West Palm Beach and throughout Florida. We offer in-person sessions at our West Palm Beach office and telehealth sessions for clients throughout Florida. Whatever you are carrying, we are here to help you work through it.
Individual therapy — also known as individual counseling, psychotherapy, or talk therapy — is a one-on-one therapeutic relationship between a client and a licensed therapist. Unlike couples therapy or family therapy, individual therapy focuses entirely on you — your history, your inner experience, your patterns, your goals, and your growth.
Individual therapy is not advice-giving. Your therapist will not tell you what to do or hand you a list of instructions for how to live your life. Instead therapy provides a structured, supportive relationship within which you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences more deeply than is possible in everyday life — and in doing so, develop greater self-understanding, more effective coping strategies, and a more authentic and fulfilling way of living.
The therapeutic relationship itself — the consistent, trusting, and genuinely caring connection between client and therapist — is one of the most important ingredients in effective therapy. Our therapists are deeply committed to building relationships with their clients that feel safe, genuine, and truly supportive.
Individual therapy at Whole Health Psychological Center addresses a wide range of concerns including:
Anxiety and worry including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, health anxiety, OCD, and the pervasive low-level anxiety that many people live with without ever naming it.
Depression and low mood including major depression, persistent depressive disorder, seasonal depression, and the kind of chronic emptiness or flatness that does not quite qualify as clinical depression but significantly diminishes quality of life.
Trauma and PTSD including the lasting effects of childhood abuse, assault, accidents, loss, and other overwhelming experiences.
Grief and loss including the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, the loss of health, or any other significant loss that has disrupted your sense of self and your life.
Relationship difficulties including patterns of conflict, communication problems, attachment insecurity, codependency, or difficulty maintaining the relationships you want.
Life transitions including career changes, divorce, relocation, becoming a parent, empty nesting, retirement, or any significant shift in life circumstances that has left you feeling unmoored or uncertain.
Self-esteem and identity including chronic self-doubt, perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty knowing what you want or who you are, and the quiet suffering of never feeling good enough.
Anger and emotional regulation including difficulty managing intense emotions, explosive reactions, or a persistent sense of being overwhelmed by feelings you cannot control.
Personal growth including a desire to understand yourself more deeply, develop greater emotional intelligence, improve your relationships, or simply live with more intention, clarity, and meaning.
At Whole Health Psychological Center we believe that effective therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Every person who walks through our door brings a unique history, a unique set of challenges, and a unique set of strengths. Our therapists are trained in multiple evidence-based approaches and integrate them flexibly to meet each client where they are.
Depending on your needs and goals your therapist may draw from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based therapy, somatic approaches, and others. Your therapist will discuss the approach that is most appropriate for your situation and will always be responsive to your feedback about what is and is not working.
Above all, we are committed to providing therapy that is warm, genuine, and deeply respectful of your autonomy. You are the expert on your own life. Our role is to provide the support, the structure, and the clinical expertise that helps you access your own wisdom and capacity for growth.
The people who come to individual therapy in Palm Beach County come for every reason imaginable. Some are dealing with a specific, namable crisis — a divorce, a diagnosis, a loss, a career change. Others are dealing with something more diffuse — a sense that life is not quite working, a pattern they keep bumping up against, a quiet weight they have been carrying for years. Many are here because the life they built looks right on paper — the house, the career, the family, the climate — and yet something inside feels unresolved. Others are here because the Florida move was supposed to be a fresh start and turned out to be harder than expected.
Our therapists work with clients from throughout West Palm Beach — including Northwood, Flamingo Park, El Cid, Southend, Grandview Heights, and Downtown — as well as from Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Wellington, Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, and Delray Beach. Whatever has brought you here is reason enough.
Your First Session
Your first session is a chance to get to know each other. Your therapist will ask about what has brought you to therapy, your history, your current circumstances, and your goals. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of your therapist and whether the relationship feels like a good fit.
Finding The Right Therapist
The relationship between client and therapist is one of the strongest predictors of therapeutic outcomes. We want you to feel genuinely comfortable with your therapist. If after a few sessions you feel that the fit is not quite right, please tell us — we will work with you to find another therapist within our practice who may be a better match.
Building Your Treatment Plan
After the initial assessment your therapist will work with you to identify your goals for therapy and develop a plan for how to pursue them. Goals are always collaborative and the plan is always flexible — it evolves as you do.
Ongoing Sessions
Sessions are 55 minutes and typically occur weekly, particularly at the start of treatment. As you make progress sessions may become less frequent. We offer in-person sessions at our West Palm Beach office at 1920 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd #211, West Palm Beach, FL 33409, and secure telehealth video sessions for clients throughout Florida.
The length of therapy varies significantly depending on what brings you to therapy, your goals, and your preferences. Some people come for a focused course of treatment around a specific concern and complete their goals in 12 to 20 sessions. Others engage in longer-term therapy that supports ongoing personal growth and development over a period of months or years. There is no right or wrong answer — the length of therapy is always a collaborative decision between you and your therapist.
We accept most major insurance plans for individual therapy, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield / Florida Blue, Cigna / Evernorth, United Health Care, Tricare East, and Medicare Part B.

How do I know if I need therapy or just support from friends and family?
Friends and family provide invaluable support — but they have their own needs, perspectives, and limitations. A therapist offers something different — a completely dedicated, confidential, and professionally skilled relationship focused entirely on your wellbeing. Therapy is particularly valuable when you are dealing with something that feels too heavy, too complex, or too private for the people in your life — or when you have found that talking to friends and family has not been enough.
What if I do not know what to talk about in therapy?
That is more common than you might think and it is completely okay. Your therapist is skilled at creating the conditions for meaningful exploration even when you are not sure where to start. Sometimes simply showing up and being honest about not knowing where to begin is itself a productive starting point.
Will therapy make things worse before they get better?
Sometimes engaging with difficult material in therapy can temporarily increase emotional discomfort — this is a normal part of the process and a sign that important work is happening. Your therapist will monitor this carefully and ensure that the pace of the work remains manageable.
What if I cry in therapy?
Crying in therapy is completely normal and welcome. In fact many clients find that the freedom to cry — in a space where there is no need to hold it together or manage another person’s reaction — is one of the most relieving aspects of the therapeutic experience.
Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
Yes, with very specific exceptions required by law. Your therapist is legally and ethically required to maintain strict confidentiality about everything you share — with the exception of situations involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. Your therapist will explain confidentiality in detail at your first session.

In a life full of obligations, roles, and relationships where you are always showing up for others, individual therapy offers something rare and genuinely precious — a space that is entirely yours. A space where you do not have to manage anyone else’s feelings, perform any particular version of yourself, or be anywhere other than exactly where you are.
Our team of licensed therapists at Whole Health Psychological Center is here to provide that space — and to walk alongside you as you do the work of understanding yourself more deeply, healing what needs to heal, and building the life you want to be living.
