Pamela’s main theoretical orientation is based on Carl Roger’s Humanistic Person-Centered counseling approach. The goal of Person-Centered therapy is to provide optimal conditions for patients to engage in meaningful self-exploration of their feelings, beliefs, behavior, and worldview, while teaching them effective coping skills to navigate current and future life stressors. To Pamela, the patient-therapist relationship/bond is of utmost importance and a prime determinant of the outcome of the therapeutic process. She strives to create a climate that includes genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and true empathic understanding. Humanistic therapy defines her general approach to all clients, though in practice she utilizes evidenced-based, empirically-supported therapeutic interventions that include, but are not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-informed therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) strategies, which include numerous Mindfulness-based practices.
Pamela has extensive experience working with children and adults in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders (e.g., Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, etc.) behavioral issues, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), grief, attachment issues, LGBTQ related concerns, adjustment issues, couples and relational conflict, family therapy, and trauma. She also has a special interest in working with adolescent females to help increase self-esteem, promote healthy body image, and strengthen self-love.
Additionally, since the tragedy which occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on 02/14/2018, Pamela is actively engaged in community outreach programs aimed at eliminating the stigma of seeking mental health services, increasing suicide prevention awareness, and providing direct care to individuals and families suffering.
